Comprised of papers created and largely collected by Robert E. Gibson in the course of his position as director of education of the United States Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands from 1951 to 1964. As a civil official, he corresponded with the U.S. administration and with educators in the field; this forms the bulk of the collection. The collection also includes political correspondence, reports (monthly from various districts), miscellaneous materials, speeches, conference material, play scripts, photographs, typescripts for publication, maps, and personal materials.
